Japanese government and Azerbaijani NGOs sign contracts

The government of Japan and six Azerbaijani NGOs today signed contracts on the projects concerning reconstruction and construction of five schools and irrigation system.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Azerbaijan Tadahiro Abe said that the embassy functioning in Azerbaijan since 2000 implemented 91 projects up to $5,861,492 within the framework of "Grassroots and Human Society Grant Assistance Programme".

Azerbaijani Education Minister Misir Mardanov thanked the government of Japan as most of these projects were connected with education, APA reports.

The Minister noted that the contracts signed today are about the reconstruction of schools in Imishli, Kurdemir, Sheki and Guba regions and supplying a school in Ganja with equipment. Linking Japan’s rapid development after the World War II with attaching great importance to education Misir Mardanov said that Azerbaijan also pays great attention to this sphere.

"AZN100m has been allocated to the construction, reconstruction of schools and their provision with equipment. 150 schools in Azerbaijan will be reconstructed at the expenditure of the state budget," the Minister said.

Contracts on six grant projects the total amount of which is $523,614 were signed at the end of the event. Ambassador Tadahiro Abe signed the contracts from the Japanese side.
