Baku among World's Best Living Locations - survey

Azerbaijan's capital city of Baku is among the most favourable locations to live in, a survey of the human resource consultancy for multinationals ECA International shows.

Baku, together with India's second-largest metropolis Delhi, Bulgaria's capital Sofia and Lithuania's Vilnius are the cities, which changed in quite positive way during the period 2002-2007.

According to the Europeans, who took part in the location ranking survey, the city, offering the best living conditions is Switzerland's Geneva, followed by Basel and Copenhagen.

The island city-state Singapore, with its low crime rate, clean air and solid infrastructure, tops a list as the best city in the world for Asian expats to live in for the fifth year in a row.

Three Australian cities - Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra - took up spots in the top five while Kobe, Osaka and Tokyo in Japan made it into the top ten of the Asian citizens.

Baghdad was mentioned as the least favourable place in the world to live in, followed by Kabul and Karachi.

The Location Ranking Survey, which was conducted by ECA International, compares living standards in 254 locations globally.

Respondents evaluated the destinations according to factors such as climate, air quality, health services, housing and utilities, isolation, social network and leisure facilities, infrastructure, personal safety and political tensions.
