Iran is ready to eliminate visa regime with Azerbaijan, former ambassador says

11 May 2007 [09:08] - TODAY.AZ
"Iran has many times offered to eliminate visa regime between the two countries since 1993. But Azerbaijani side has not specified its position on the issue," said Former Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, senior expert on Asia and CIS countries at the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Iran Afshar Suleymani.

Suleymani told APA two documents have been signed on elimination of visa regime and agreement was concluded during the last year meeting of Foreign Ministries.

According to the diplomat, if Azerbaijan agrees, this question can be easily settled. "This question has been topical since 1992. From early 90s the people of border districts enjoyed simplified visa regime. Now people do not enjoy even that. In my opinion, it is high time to solve this problem which disturbs citizens of the two countries. Iran is always ready to solve this problem."
