European Court of Human Rights can investigate lawsuits against journalists in Azerbaijan

And the Council of Europe has called for the country to honor the commitments and ensure media freedom in the country, Council of Europe Secretary General's Special Representative to Azerbaijan Denis Bribosia told journalists, APA reports.

He said that if necessary, the European Court of Human Rights can investigate lawsuits against journalists in Azerbaijan.

"But we hope Azerbaijani courts will solve all these problems. I do not know whether PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteurs on Azerbaijan Tony Lloyd and Andres Herkel will propose the debate of situation of media freedom in the country in the Assembly's summer session, but I am sure they are also concerned about this problem," the Special Representative stressed.
