Sardar Jalaloglu: "Fair elections in Azerbaijan are possible with the current composition of the Electoral Commissions"

24 January 2008 [16:21] - TODAY.AZ
The Democratic Party of Azerbaijan does not consider it necessary to introduce amendments to the Election Code of the country.

According to party chairman Sardar Jalaloglu, the demand of separate opposition parties to introduce changes to the Central Electoral Commission on the parity basis does not correspond to the reality and is groundless to a certain extent.

"Opposition must not stop on the demand to change the staff of the electoral commissions. Fair elections in Azerbaijan are possible with the current composition of the Electoral commissions.

Even the best laws can be effective if there is a wish to make them work. The draft laws, adopted in the 16th century, are still used in England. Why to change them, if they can be used effectively?

When I complained to the district court that my deputy powers were not recognized in 2005 following parliamentary elections, I was told that they will be confirmed on the second stage. But this case remained unsettled. It is necessary to fight for preservation of the national values of the country and not to think whether opposition will be represented in the Central Electoral Committee by 5 or 6 people or not", he said.
