US ambassador to Azerbaijan: "Journalists should not be subjected to pressure, threatened, beaten and arrested for his professional activity"

According to Day.Az, the organization "For political and civil rights" called the ambassador a friend of journalists.

According to the organization, the second place among friends of Azerbaijani journalists belongs to PACE co-rapporteur on Azerbaijan Andres Herkel and the third place-organization "Reporters without Borders"

Speaking the awarding ceremony, ambassador Anne Derse said the United States believe that freedom of speech is an integral part of a free society and state governing on the basis of democratic principles.

"We believe that free press is the main guarantor of citizens rights and there can not be real freedom without free press", said she.

"Journalists should not be subjected to pressure, threatened, beaten and arrested for their professional activity. Moreover, journalists should not turn into instruments of personal, political and economic interests", said the US ambassador to Azerbaijan.

She noted that they welcome journalists' efforts for development of free, independent and ethic press for democratic future of Azerbaijan.
