Hikmet Hajizade: "The United States have no opportunities to defend Azerbaijan in case of Russia's aggression"

"Neither Sarkozy nor Fried have said anything definite to Ukraine or Azerbaijan for them to defend their positions. Perhaps, any definite promises are given on a high level and confidentially, yet we do not know anything about it".

As for Azerbaijan's possible defense by EU in case of Russia's aggression he said that unfortunately, the United States currently has no opportunities to defend Azerbaijan.

"I frequently hear the following phrase while having personal talks with US diplomats: "Certainly, we will not sent our forces to the Caucasus (against Russia's aggression". Perhaps, Fried and Cheney will ask Georgia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan to wait until the West settles the problem of global terrorism and nuclear missile proliferation. But there is an optimistic (too optimistic) script: West and Russia will start to reconcile. West will launch Russia's integration into its space, admit Russia as a member or strategic partner of NATO and EU. Then everyone, including the former USSR countries, would be happy. I really do not understand the reasons why West and Russia do not start moving towards each others. But this is a different subject for discussions", concluded the political scientist.
