Iran to unveil new generation of "national satellite"

24 December 2009 [12:02] - TODAY.AZ
Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi announced on Wednesday that Iran will unveil a new generation of the “national satellite” called Tolou (dawn) in early February.
The military official made the remarks during his visit to Shiraz branch of Iran’s Electronics Industries Co. (Sa-Iran), an affiliate of the Defense Ministry.

This satellite will be made public in Ten-day Dawn, he said.

Ten-Day Dawn is a ten-day-long occasion in February which is dedicated to the celebration of the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

He went on to say that the satellite has been designed and built by talented Iranian scientists at Sa-Iran.

“By these space breakthroughs Iran has made a major stride to continue its active presence in the space.”

“Sa-Iran in Shiraz has become the country’s hub of radar and electronics industries and has managed to meet the country’s demands for electronics equipment needed for defensive measures,” he noted.

Outstanding achievements made by the Iranian Defense Ministry in electronics has both improved Iran’s deterrent capabilities and broken up the monopoly over advanced technologies, he pointed out.

Iran launched its first national satellite last year in honor of the thirty-first anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. The satellite was sent into orbit by an Iran-built rocket.
