Trial Continues for France's Reiss on charges of action against Iran's national security

24 December 2009 [15:40] - TODAY.AZ
Trial of the French national, Clotilde Reiss, who is currently on trial on charges of action against Iran's national security, will continue for one more session, her attorney Mohammad Ali Mahdavi Sabet announced.
"Presentation of the final part of pleadings concerning the accusations leveled against this French citizen was postponed to the next court session," Sabet said.

The second session of Reiss's trial was held at Branch 15 of the Tehran's Public and Revolutionary Court on Wednesday.

He announced that France's ambassador to Tehran and a diplomat from the French embassy were also present at the judiciary complex.

Clotilde Reiss was arrested at a Tehran airport on July 1 on charges of espionage as she tried to leave Iran after spending five months in the central city of Isfahan.

During her court hearing on July 8, she admitted to her crimes and asked the court and the Iranian people for clemency.

"I apologize to the Iranian people and court and I hope the people and the court forgive me," she said.

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner had recently claimed that Tehran has offered France to exchange Reiss with an Iranian national imprisoned in the European country.

Yesterday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast rejected Kouchner's claims, noting that the rights of foreign and Iranian nationals should not be ignored through undiplomatic approaches.
