Chinese Huawei says to invest over $50 mln in Turkey

Huawei plans to inaugurate the research & development center on January 21 in Umraniye district in Istanbul.
Chinese equipment maker Huawei, one of world's leading telecommunications network solutions provider, will invest more than 50 million USD in Turkey in three years with a new research & development center in Istanbul.

Huawei plans to inaugurate the research & development center on January 21 in Umraniye district in Istanbul.

Huawei released a written statement and said this would be the 15th research & development center of the company in the world, noting 350 Turkish engineers are planned to be assigned in the center in three years.

The company said the center was an indication of the importance attached to Turkey adding that the investment would have important contributions to Turkish economy and society.

Huawei is the solution partner of Turkey's mobile phone operators Turkcell, Vodafone and Avea to build their 3G networks.

Huawei Turkey earlier said 2008 was a very bright year for company's global operations. Huawei's global sales climbed 46 percent to 23.3 billion USD in 2008. Chinese technology company estimates that sales could exceed 30 billion in 2009.
