Turkey says October unemployment rate 13 percent

Turkey's statistics authority says unemployment rate in the country stood at 13 percent for October 2009 period, which covered September, October and November 2009.

Turkish Board of Statistics said Friday unemployment rose by 1.8 percent over the same period in 2008.

The number of unemployed people soared up 569 thousand to reach 3,299 thousand.

Participation rate in the work force for October 2009 was 48.8 percent, the statistics board said.

The unemployment rate in urban areas was 15.5 percent with an increase of 2.5 points and the figure for rural areas was 8.2 percent.
