Georgian journalist detained in Ukraine

He's currently staying in a cell for persons to be deported. According to Imedi, Khvistiani was covering the first tour of presidential elections in Ukraine, in Donetsk he was attacked. The journalist was accredited to cover the second tour.

In a talk with the channel representatives the journalist expressed bewilderment about his arrest, as he wasn't explained the reasons - RosBalt.

"Before the passport control border guard service employees came up to me and without any explanation took away my passport and convoyed to the establishment for people to be deported, located in the territory of Borispol airport," the journalist said.

He added later he was informed he had been forbidden to enter Ukraine, but again no reason was called. "The room I'm staying in, is very dirty, there're several chairs, and several dozens of people. Of course, food and water are out of question. People sleep on chairs by turn," Khvistiani said.

At the same time, Kakha Janezashvili, the cameraman of Imedi, had no problem to enter Ukraine. "Our consulate, will be able to return him [Khvisitani] to Georgia," the cameraman said.
