At a plenary sitting on Tuesday, after long discussions, the Parliament of Georgia adopted amendments to the Constitution in the second reading.
According to the bill, extraordinary elections to Sakrebulo [city council] must be held no later than June 1, 2010.
A few days ago the President stated the local elections and Tbilisi Mayor elections must be held on May 30.
He called on parliamentarians to adopt the amendments as soon as possible to let everyone, including opposition parties, prepare for the elections properly and stage an electoral campaign.
