Kazakhstan is cautiously optimistic about the settlement of the Karabakh issue, OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Kazakh Secretary of State and Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev told a joint press conference with the Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian today.
He said Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev is well aware of the conflict background and got involved into the process still in 1991 on his regional visit.
“We intend to give new impetus to the settlement of the Karabakh issue, but we know that it’s up to the two countries to resolve the conflict,” Saudabayev said.
“We must support and realize any initiative targeted at defusing the tension, including the withdrawal of the snipers from the contact line,” the OSCE Chairperson said.
