Deputy FM says Georgia faces Russian threat

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Nino Kalandadze said the security of the country was not guaranteed while Russia kept on its strict rhetoric and some European states continued with supporting it with military-technical equipment.

Kalandadze commented on the intention of France to sell Mistral warship to Russia.

She said Russia was being equipped from Europe despite the fact that it carried out a military aggression against Georgia two years ago.

According to her, it is unprecedented fact, when the NATO member state gives its largest warship to Russia amid its sharp military rhetoric and aggressive political steps.

Kalandadze has also assessed the intention of Russia to move its fleet from Ukraine to Georgia's breakaway Abkhazia and construction of military bases there as the violation of international law.

"We can speak about our defensibility in accordance with how our friends and allies support us. But considering that Russia keeps on his sharp military rhetoric and others keep on supplying the country with military equipment, we are not completely protected," Kalandadze said.
