Turkey’s newly-appointed ambassador to the United States submitted his credentials to the U.S. president on Wednesday.
President Barack Obama received ambassadors recently appointed to the country, including Turkish Ambassador Namık Tan, at the White House.
After presenting his letter of credence to Obama, Tan officially assumed the Turkish diplomatic mission in Washington D.C., taking over the duties of Nabi Şensoy, who was reassigned to the Foreign Ministry.
A graduate from Ankara University's Faculty of Law, Tan joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982.
Tan previously served as first secretary and counselor at the Turkish Embassy in Washington D.C., head of the ministry’s United States Department, foreign minister secretary, ministry spokesman, ministry deputy undersecretary and at the Turkish Embassy in Israel.
