Turkey's state-run news agency says police have detained Tarkan, Turkey's best-known pop star who makes top music charts worldwide, along with some other entertainers in Istanbul.
The Anatolia news agency says Tarkan, who only uses one name, was detained in a police raid early Friday. Police is questioning him and the others. No charges have been filed.
Tarkan has been the chart-topping Turkish pop star for more than a decade in Turkey and Europe since he has sold millions of records in Turkey and his catchy Arabic-influenced tune "Simarik" -"Spoiled" - reached the top of music charts in France, in 1998.
Turkish police often carry out drug operations in Istanbul. Turkey is a transit point for drugs between the Middle East, Asia and Europe.
