22 March 2010 [12:35] - TODAY.AZ
The U.S. assistance to Georgia in the military sphere is carried out in two main directions, the U.S. Ambassador to Georgia John Bass said in an interview to Kahetis hma "(Voice of Kakheti) newspaper.
"The first direction is training of the battalion, to be sent to Afghanistan to conduct international peacemaking mission. Our marines, who take part in training of Georgian military, believe that the Georgian soldiers are the best and they are ready to become proficient in their profession," the ambassador said.

He believes that everyone should trust in the marines, as they trained military men not only in the one region of the world.

Regarding the second direction of the assistant, John Bass said this is improvement of defense systems and support structure.

"These are salary, budget preparation, procurement, which are the basis for a good training of the Georgian army. Without these fundamental questions it is difficult to provide effective and efficient military system," he said.
