German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged Turkey to vote in unison with the U.S. and the EU at the UN Security Council on Iran's nuclear program.
Merkel who is visiting Turkey told a joint press conference with Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan that Iran made no progress regarding concerns of the international community, signalling action against Iran in the UN.
Merkel said they also discussed the upcoming talks over Iran's nuclear programme in UN Security Council, urging Turkey to vote in unison with the west on Iran's nuclear programme.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the other hand, said that the most appropriate way to solve Iran issue was diplomacy.
When reporters asked, whether he discussed the sanctions on Iran during his meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Erdogan said that they took up the issue with Merkel.
He referred to the sanctions imposed on Iran in the past, noting that the countries, which decided to impose sanctions, broke the sanctions themselves.
Erdogan expressed belief that imposing sanctions was not a healthy way, and he said that diplomacy was the most appropriate way.
