Tbilisi airport cancels flights due to volcanic eruption in Iceland

17 April 2010 [11:40] - TODAY.AZ
Several flights to the European states from Tbilisi have been cancelled and delayed due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland, which has cancelled over 5000 flights in Europe's airports, as the ash of the volcano has covered the airspace of Europe.

Tbilisi airport cancelled flight to Riga, which will fly on April 17. The flight to Paris has been delayed for five hours.

Experts have warned that the tiny particles of rock, glass and sand contained in the ash cloud from the still-erupting volcano could be sufficient to jam aircraft engines. But the Health Protection Agency said the ash from the volcano eruption did not pose a significant risk to public health because of its high altitude.
