A girl was born with four hands and legs in one of the Azerbaijani regions on April 6. The baby was brought to the Surgery Department of the Azerbaijani Scientific-Research Pediatrics Institute on April 7.
Department head Gunduz Agayev told Day.Az that here doctors examined the girl and made the diagnosis of epigastric heteropagus. After a thorough examination and preoperative measures, the girl was operated on April 17.
During the operation, the girl was separated from the parasite fetus, which consisted of pelvis and several vertebrae, underdeveloped upper limbs , isolated genitourinary tract and intestine, which were in the abdomen of the child.
A team of pediatric surgeons Doctor of Medical Sciences of the Russian Federation Gunduz Agayev, N. Mirzoyeva and S. Novruzov were able to save the life of this child.
The operation was completed successfully and the girl was discharged for outpatient treatment. Doctors said they expect a complete cure of the child in the near future.
