World Food Program executive director visits displaced-persons camps in Azerbaijan

The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) executive director James Morris, who arrived in Azerbaijan yesterday, will visit Sabirabad, Imishli and Bilasuvar regions today to familiarize with the conditions of the internally displaced persons.

Mr.Morris will visit IDPs housed in Galagayin ID camps in Sabirabad, wagons on railway in Imishli and in the new settlements in Bilasuvar region.

The State Committee for Refugees and IDPs told the visitor is expected to meet with government officials tomorrow. On the last day of his stay in Azerbaijan – July 28, Mr.Morris will hold joint press conference with the State Committee chief Ali Hasanov.

The WFP has long been rendering food aid to Azerbaijani IDPs. It has prolonged the term of its relevant program for two years from July 1 this year till June 30, 2008. The WFP had allocated $15, 66 million to Azerbaijan for this purpose.

The WFP grants 6 kg of flour, 450 gr. of sugar, 600 gr. vegetable oil, 900 gr. of peas and 150 gr. of salt monthly to every ID-family in Azerbaijan in the framework of this program, APA reports.
