633 criminal groups neutralized in 2006

Grave, especially grave crimes, deliberate manslaughters, cheatings, robberies as well as hijacking of transport facilities and crimes against foreign nationals rose in number in January-June this year, Prosecutor's Office of Republic told the APA.

At the recent staff meeting in the Prosecutor's Office, relevant bodies were ordered to take necessary precautions jointly with the interior bodies. The number of juvenile crimes notably decreased in the reporting period. In addition, 353 crimes were disclosed in this period. The crimes committed by the previously sentenced offenders fell by 11.6% and crimes committed by criminal groups by 5.9%.

633 criminal gangs and groups composed of 1,781 criminals were neutralized in the reporting period. These groups and gangs face the charges of deliberate manslaughters, cheatings, robberies and threatening. 17 members of the criminal gang led by Arif Hajiyev and members of the armed gang led by Mammad Ibrahimov, who committed a number of crimes, including two manslaughters in Agjabedi and Beylagan regions in 2004-2005, one attempt to manslaughter, 17 thefts and two robberies were exposed in the reporting period.

The Prosecutor's Office Department to Combat Corruption submitted 17 criminal cases on 37 offenders to court.
