Film about Ahiska Turks shot in Georgia

Archive materials were used in the film called Ahiskas.

The film shows the life of Turks beginning from 1828 till their deportation years. The presentation of the film shot by Toma Chagelishvili was held in Rustavelli cinema. After all, the film will be displayed in Rustavi-2 TV channel.vThe film was shot on the occasion of anniversary of mass deportation of Turks.

Conflict settlement Ministry told APA Garabagh bureau that the mass deportation of Ahiska Turks from Meskheti-Javakheti and other regions began in 1944. At all, the number of deported Ahiska Turks were 91 000 people. 53.163 people of them were deported to Uzbekistan, 28.598 people to Kazakhstan, 10.546 people to Kyrgyzstan. Georgia was admitted to Council of Europe in 1999 and undertook the obligation to complete the repatriation till 2012.

At present Ahiska Turks live in nine countries-Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, turkey, USA and Georgia, APA Georgia bureau reports.
