Azeri rugby players' matches conducted by Armenian referees

16 March 2007 [14:47] - TODAY.AZ
Baku rugby club took the fifth place among eight teams participated in the international tournament in Iran.

Rugby Federation secretary-general Eldeniz Refibeyli told APA-Sport that Azeri club lost four of seven encounters.

The team earned victory over Georgian Uizard and Iranian team representing Khonzistan province. The encounter with other Georgian team Devebi ended in a draw. Refibeyli noted that the tournament had been organized in a very low level.

"It was cleared out during the tournament that neither Iranian teams nor local referees knew anything about the rules. They took tendentious position against us. Later on, we knew that two of four Iranian referees were Armenian."

The secretary-general stated that the main reason of team's failure was absence of some leading players in the tournament. Besides, the team hadn't trained for near four months.
