The Court of Grave Crimes held a hearing on the criminal case of doctors of clinical medical center No 1 Tarana Israfilova, Sakhavat Ibragimova, as well as Shahmar Askerov.
The court was presided by judge Enver Seidov.
They were charged with selling a newborn to Pakistan.
According to the case materials, the accused persons were detained by officers of the department for combat with human trafficking of Azerbaijan's Interior Ministry in March of 2008.
Tarana Israfilova, going into cahoots with the aforementioned persons, sold a newborn for $2,000 to Pakistani citizen Hijran Askerova.
All the three people were found guilty under article 144.1 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan (kidnapping).
Under the verdict, Israfilova, Ibrahimova and Askerov were sentenced to 3, 8 and 8 years of imprisonment respectively.
