US Azerbaijanis to mark 17th anniversary of Azerbaijan's Independence in New York

Azerbaijan Society of America (president - xanim Tomris Azeri) and their many members will celebrate 17th anniversary of Azerbaijan's Independence in New York City by raising the Azerbaijan national flag on Broadway in lower Manhattan on Saturday , October 18, 2008.

Azerbaijani flag will fly alongside the American flag. The two flagpoles stand just steps away from the famous sculpture of a charging bull, a Wall Street symbol and a landmark known worldwide.
This year marks the fifth time such a ceremony will take place organized by Azerbaijan Society of America.

The ceremony will start at noon with the playing of the American national anthem while raising the American flag followed by the Azerbaijani national anthem and hoisting the large flag of Azerbaijan. The two flags will be up for 10 days.
