Creation of anti-doping lab in Azerbaijan to take EUR 16 mln

18 October 2008 [08:57] - TODAY.AZ
Head of the anti-doping sector of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Irada Rystamzade doubts the profitability of construction of an anti-doping lab in Baku.
"The thing is that it is necessary to hold at least 1,500 doping tests for the official recognition of the lab by the World Anti-Doping Organization", said Irada Rustamzade, "At the same time, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Turkey have labs, which means that sportsmen from these countries will not need to come to our country.

Moreover, the equipment for the lab costs EUR 16 mln. It is a great issue whether to spend such money or wouldn't it be easier to send sportsmen for tests in Moscow?"
