"Information about the brutal beating of Azadlyg newspaper correspondent Mirza Sakit by jail-keepers is false", said Mehman Sadighov, chief of the public policy department of the penitentiary system of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Justice.
He said by the internal rules, when prisoners are brought to the colony, they must be shaved accurately.
"Mirza Sakit rejected it and obliged the jail keepers to shave him by force. There was no need to beat Sakit. No one beat him, he was just suggested to have shaving, he showed resistance. No physical pressure was applied against Mirza Sakit", said Sadikhov.
Journalist's wife Rena Zahidova has notably held a press conference at which she said that on October 18 her husband Mirza Sakit was beaten by jail jeepers of correctional facility No 14.
