A granite idol was for the first time found in the result of archaeological excavations in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Official of the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Bahlul Ibrahimli told APA’s local bureau that blue-black granite idol found in Sumbatan territory in Gilanchay valley, Ordubad region weighs about 30k. It was proved that idolatry existed in 3ha-territory and the area was an ancient temple. Bahlul Ibrahimli said the entrance and exit in the temple were typical of the 1st millennium BC. A temple of such kind was found in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for the first time. Excavations will continue in the territory next year.
