Baku Appellate Court to consider the claim of members of Al-Qaeda terrorist grouping

Baku Appellate Court will consider the appeal of the members of the criminal group, suspected of links with terrorist organizations Al-Qaeda and Al-Jihad, reports Day.Az with reference to the website of the Baku Appellate Court.

The appeal was taken for consideration by judge Faik Gasimov. The court hearing on the said issue is scheduled for November 6.

The appeal states the need to pass a verdict of not guilty regarding citizen of Arabian origin Abu Jafar, as well as Elchin Alimirzoyev, Vidadi Kerimov, Telman Abdullayev, Adil Garakhanov, Vitali Aghamamedov, Asef Hasanov, Danial Abuyev, Rafael Rahimov, Mirza Babayev, Gadir Hajiyev, Vuqar Aliyev, Emin Jami, Loghman Muradov, Habil Masmaliyev and Perviz Kerimov.

It should be noted that under the verdict of the Court of Grave Crimes, Abu Jafar is sentenced to 14 years in prison, Elchin Alimirzoyev to 12 years, Vidadi Kerimov to 9 years, the rest from 3 to 8 years.

The aforementioned persons were found guilty under articles 315.2 (resistance or application of force, threatening to the life or health of the power representative), 228.2.1 (illegal purchase, transfer, sale, storage, transportation of arms, parts, ammunitions, explosive substances and facilities by a group of persons under preliminary plot), 279.2 (assault against enterprises, establishments, organizations or separate persons within the armed formations or groups, not envisioned by the legislation of the Azerbaijani Republic) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

It should be reminded that in the result of the operation, carried out by the officials of the Ministry of National Security, Abu Jafar, associated with terrorist organizations Al-Qaeda and Al-Jihad as well as a number of other persons were detained. Upon arrival to Azerbaijan, they created an armed grouping of persons, earlier actively involved into the illegal militarized groups in different conflict areas and radical vahhabis.

During the detainment Telman Abdullayev showed armed resistance, wounding two policemen.

During the operations, the officers confiscated the following things from their flats and caches: a tommy-gun, 3 guns, a sawed-off gun, 12 grenades, 11 ignition devices, 1, 075 grams of trotyle, 4 meters of Bickford cord, 91 detonators, 4 magazine chargers, 4 magazines, 25 gun cartridges, about 600 tommy-gun cartridges, 3 special torches, 2 compasses, a signal rocket, an electric device, a map of Sumgayit and so on.
