President of Azerbaijan ratifies Optional protocol of UN convention against torture

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree to execute an optional protocol of the UN convention against torture and other inhumane treatment and punishment, reports Day.Az with reference to AzerTac.
In line with the document, the Azerbaijani ombudsman will fulfill functions of the national preventive mechanism, envisioned by the optional protocol.

The Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers is empowered to take due measures due to the execution of the optional protocol of the said convention.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry is empowered to inform the UN General Assembly about establishment of a structure, fulfilling functions of the national preventive mechanism, in our country.
