Azerbaijan doctors may perform all heart surgeries at the state expense

Chairman of the Society of Cardiovascular Surgery Kamran Musayev said today all the procedures required for heart surgeries and applied in the world can be made in Azerbaijan.

“Six months passed since Azerbaijan has started to perform surgeries on arrhythmia. Seven or eight years ago most of the patients were sent abroad for surgeries, while now this is not happening that often.  Plus, at present two tendencies are observed: first, foreigners living in Azerbaijan prefer to be operated here, and second, doctors from neighbouring countries started to send their patients to Azerbaijan more often,” Musayev said.

All expensive surgeries are state-funded.

“The pleasant fact is that lately more attention is paid to medical insurance, both state and private. This system develops. Heart surgery is an expensive procedure, but following special care of the Republic of Azerbaijan, this problem in the country is solved faster and easier than in the other countries,” Musayev said.

At the same time, heart surgeries in Azerbaijan are performed more often than in the other countries.

Musayev reported to Fineko/abc.az that cardiovascular diseases in Azerbaijan are more widespread than, for instance, in Turkey and CIS countries.

“Arrhythmia is observed more frequently than in Europe.” Musayev said.
