Reason for Azerbaijani editor-in-chief's death made public

Vein thrombosis caused death of Novruzali Mammadov, editor-in-chief of Azerbaijan's 'Talishi Sado' newspaper, Justice Ministry’s Penal Service said in a statement.
According to the statement, Mammadov was examined in the penitentiary facility and was always under the doctors’ control. The state of his health was satisfactory and he did not need treatment.

Mammadov was also examined by head endocrinologist of Baku and specialists of the leading clinics. They prescribed treatment for him.

On August 17, his health suddenly deteriorated. He suffered disorder of brain and heart. The ministry’s doctors and leading specialists of the Health Ministry were involved in his treatment.

Despite the medical assistance, Mammadov died that day. According to the initial results of the forensic medical examination, Mammadov died of vein thrombosis that caused disorder of blood circulation.

Novruzali Mammadov was charged with high treason and stirring up national, racial and religious enmity. He was sentenced to 10 years in jail. He died in the medical unit of Justice Ministry’s Penal Service.
