28 August 2009 [17:45] - TODAY.AZ
A fine worth 60,000 manat has been imposed due to felling of trees in Baku over the last 2 to 3 months.
"At present, facts of felling of trees have rather decreased. Public control is implemented at the highest level in Azerbaijan. The number of planted trees is much more than the ones cut down," Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Hussein Bagirov said in an interview with ruling New Azerbaijan Party Web site.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has decreed to plant 3 million trees in Baku and surrounding areas for a short period of time.

Some 11 areas for landscaping have been determined in the Absheron peninsula.

"About 172,000 trees have been planted along the road of Baku-Alat-Hajigabul and 230,000 different trees and bushes along the road of Zych-airport, Bagirov said.
