"Perhaps, the Education Ministry plans to make a relevant appeal. However, the Central Security Department has not received any appeal to ensure security in Azerbaijani secondary and higher schools by the security services in a new academic year," Chief of the Interior Ministry Central Security Department Madat Guliyev said.
The security of educational institutions has become more urgent after the tragedy that occurred in the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy on April 30. About 12 people died and 13 were wounded as a result of the fire opened by 29-year old Georgian citizen.
Earlier, Education Minister Misir Mardanov said they have reached an agreement providing special security service at the higher and secondary schools beginning from the new academic year.
"I can assure parents that the government guarantees the safety of their children. The security will be provided in both public and private educational institutions," Mardanov added.
A number of high schools appealed to the department to ensure security and the department have concluded contracts with them, Guliyev said.
Once similar appeals are made from the Education Ministry, the department has opportunity to ensure security at higher and secondary schools, Guliyev added.
The General Security Department of the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry ensures security of about 8,500 state and private facilities.
