Shooting on Azerbaijan-Russia border

The incident took place in Khachmaz region of Azerbaijan near the Caspian coasts, local prosecutor’s office said.

The security forces prevented smuggling of 114 boxes of China-made mobile phones, large number of lighters and some domestic goods to Russia via Azerbaijan.

The smugglers resisted to security forces by shooting from arms.

Member of the organized group, resident of Khachmaz region, Rafig Shirzal Fatullayev, 23 was killed during the shooting.

Other member of the group, Chechen citizen Yunis Nesenovich Zabirov, 33 was wounded. He was hospitalized in Khachmaz.

An investigation is underway.
