Representatives of World Association of Newspapers meets chief of Azerbaijan’s Press Council

Visiting Baku, representatives of the World Association of Newspapers (WAN), including Mirjana Milosevic, Executive Director of WAN Press Freedom and development Program, Bengt Braun, Program Manager, and Timothy Balding, WAN Chief Executive Officer, today have met Aflatun Amashov, chief of Azerbaijan Press Council.

Amashov raised awareness of the guests about the Council`s activities related to regulating media-society and media-government relations.

The chief of the Council said his organization is engaged in investigating complaints from people on newspapers, magazines and news agencies.

He said they try to solve problems between readers and the media before the trial.

WAN officials said their visit aims to study impact of the existent atmosphere of freedom of speech and press upon the activities of newspapers.
