Event on integration of Azerbaijanis into German society held in Berlin

25 September 2009 [09:12] - TODAY.AZ
An event on integration of emigrants into the German society was held in German Azerbaijanis’ Coordination Center in Berlin, the State Committee for Diaspora said.
The event was organized by Azerbaijani embassy in Germany. The history and social aspects of the problems were viewed. It was noted that the state program “The country receiving foreigners” was applied in Germany beginning from the 60s of the past century.

One fifth of German population consists of foreigners. For many years little attention was paid to the coexistence of local people with foreigners, equal rights in the society. It impeded integration of emigrants into the local conditions.

Serious studies have been recently conducted came to the conclusion that some of the emigrants failed to improve their knowledge and work on their specialties, they can not fully use their rights and need government assistance.

Most of them are unemployed. Even the first generation of the emigrants has problems with the German language. Though they have been living in Germany for tens of years, about  50 percent of them failed to receive German citizenship and have no right to participate in the elections. Therefore most of the foreigners feel isolated from the society.

It was noted that some of the Azerbaijanis living in Germany also face this problem.
