In a bid to promote innovative programs in Azerbaijan, Intel, with support from the Ministry of Education, initiated a project on the use of modern information and communication technology (ICT) as part of the project "1 student - 1 computer" for secondary schools, the ICT information center reported.
The "1 student - 1 computer" project is realized as part of a global initiative Intel World Ahead ("The world of the future begins today"). The project aims to develop innovative models of laptop computers in primary and secondary schools of Azerbaijan.
So far, under the project, 100 laptops have already been granted to the European Lyceum. Laptop computers have been given to students of the fifth and sixth grades to use them in school and at home.
By late 2009, 400 more laptops will be granted to an Elite Gymnasium, the European Lyceum, as well as secondary schools number 23 and number 6. In 2010, students will receive an additional 4,000 notebooks.
