"The destruction of the monument to Azerbaijanis in Sevastopol is a very unexpected and sad event,” Chairman of the Congress of Ukrainian Azerbaijanis Akif Gulmammadov said commenting on media reports claiming that the monument in the Crimea erected to Azerbaijanis who died for the liberation of the city in the Great Patriotic War had been destroyed.

“We have notified all regional official bodies. I wrote letters to all the necessary authorities so that this case will not be overlooked and that criminals will be found,” he said.
"The monument is destroyed to such an extent that reconstruction is necessary. It must be restored,” Gulmammadov said.
"Yesterday the representatives of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine were on the scene promising to look into this matter and find the vandals. Today the ambassador will present a note to the Ukrainian authorities about the event,” Gulmammadov said.
