08 October 2009 [11:23] - TODAY.AZ
Heavy rains in the Azerbaijani Hajigabul region (110 km outside Baku) have flooded nearly 800 homes.
Homes in four streets of the region's center have been damaged most of all, chairman of the Emergency Situations Commission of the Hajigabul region Sahib Aslanov said.

Aslanov said the water is being pumped out of the homes' yards by Emergency Situations Ministry (ESM).

"Currently, we are pumping water from yards of about 100 houses," the chairman added.

Infrastructure of the region center and population's houses are not severely damaged.

On Sept. 21, heavy rains in the Nevahi and Ranjbar villages of the region destroyed more than 300 homes.

Further, the natural disaster also crippled the Neftchala and Shirvan regions. The disaster seriously damaged agriculture of these regions, especially livestock.

About 70 percent of the Hajigabul region centre was flooded. The heavy rains have destroyed 300 meters of railway tracks.
