09 October 2009 [13:42] - TODAY.AZ
The head of Baku and All-Caspian Eparchy Alexander notes the high level of tolerance in Azerbaijan.
"Azerbaijani citizens, professing Christianity, feel good in this country. To do this, Azerbaijan have churches, a Sunday school, and has passed a law on Freedom of Religion, as well as good relations with other religions have been established for a long time," Bishop said at a news conference on the 10th anniversary of the Baku-Caspian Eparchy on Oct. 9.

The Russian Orthodox Church contributed to the development of friendship between the peoples and maintenance of socio-political stability in Azerbaijan, he said.

The Bishop said Azerbaijan has three Orthodox churches. However, they are not enough, and "we raised the question of building more churches", said Bishop.

"The Russian Orthodox Church supported the leadership of Azerbaijan and blesses the people in their independent living. The 1990s have been difficult for the Orthodox church in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is characterized by a high level of tolerance. Despite the difficulties, we supported the Muslims and the native residents of Azerbaijan", said the head of Baku and All-Caspian Eparchy.
