Inclusion of Azerbaijan's Ashug music into UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage is a great success for Azerbaijan: minister

“Inclusion of Icherisheher (Old City), Mugham, Gobustan, Ashug music and Novruz holiday, which reflect Azerbaijan’s culture and history, into UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage is a great success for Azerbaijan”, said Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev.

The minister said Ashug music has already been included into the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

"Of course, the interest in Ashug music will considerably increase. But the question is whether the regions popular with Ashug music ready to demonstrate this art at high level," the minister said.

Garayev noted that a number of issues of primary importance would be discussed at the meeting of culture ministers of Islamic countries in Baku on Oct. 13.

Devastated cultural and historical monuments of Azerbaijan in the occupied territories will also be debated.
