Azerbaijan to change retirement age

The meeting of the Socio-Economic Committee of the Milli Majlis (parliament) has discussed the changes and additions proposed to the "Law on the Labor Pension.”

Chairman of the committee Hadi Rajabli said at the legislative initiative of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, terms of appointment of labor pension age have been changed in the bill submitted to the parliament.

Under the previous law, men at age 62, and women at 57 with and insurance period of at least 12 years could receive retirement pension.

Under the new law for men, from 1 January 2010 to January 1, 2012, and for women - from 1 January 2010 to January 1, 2016, retirement age each year will increase by 6 months and will reach age 63 and 60, respectively.

The terms of appointing labor pension due to disability, carers, single fathers raising a child, mothers with disabilities will also undergo changes.  Calculation of pension on reaching retirement age will also change.

Retirement age for mothers who raised a child with disabilities will be reduced by 5 years. But at the same time they should have a 10-year contribution period.

After discussion it was decided to bring up the document for consideration in the Milli Majlis.
