"Minimum salaries have been increased 8.3 times, average monthly salary 3.8 times, average pensions 3.8 times, average social allowance 2.2 times and GDP per capita 5 times," Azerbaijani Minister of Labor and Social Protection Fuzuli Alakbarov said at the National Conference on Child Welfare Reform in Azerbaijan.
"As a result, the poverty dropped from 49 percent to 13.2 percent in Azerbaijan," the minister said.
The Minister said about 153,000 people receive targeted social aid in Azerbaijan.
On average 107 manats are paid to each family.
“About 90 percent of them are families with children. 45.2 percent of them are families having three or more children. Due to the application of the targeted social aid system, poverty reduced 20 percent among the families having many children within three years,” he said.
Alakbarov said the ministry has developed the draft State Program “Social rehabilitation of low-income families in 2010-2013”.
