The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan has issued a statement on the anniversary of occupation of Azerbaijan’s Zagilan region by Armenia.
The ministry’s quick response center for identification of destructive effect on the environment and natural resources in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan found out the facts, which prove destruction of natural resources of the region by the Armenians.

Valuable trees of Topmeshe forestry of Zengilan such as walnuts, eastern plane-trees and others were cut by Armenians and carried away as a construction material.

Armenia’s Gajaran copper-molybdenum and Gafan copper-enrichment factories pour dirty waters to Oxcuchay River, which turned the river environment into “dead zone”, killing its micro-flora and fauna and stopped its self-cleaning process.

Armenians committed catastrophic arson in juniper forests in Bartaz and Vecnali areas for many times. They have burned administrative building of the forestry and cut two hectares of plurannual walnuts, plane and pine-trees around it.

Dasbashi and Leshkar forests were also burnt and 55 hectares of 40-50-year walnuts, 350-400-year oaks in Top and Shukurataz forestry were cut and carried away.

The videotapes showed that plurannual evergreen trees and fruit trees were cut in Alibayli village of the region, and wild trees and bushes replaced them in roadsides.

Zengilan region was occupied by Armenian invaders on Oct. 29, 1993 and until the occupation it had 6.5 tons of gold and 3,000 tons of copper resources in Vecnali, 6,618 cubic meters of marble limestone, 129 million tons of limestone in Dashabashi-Asgurum field of Zengilan, 6,024 tons of road-metal, 28,943 cubic meters of porphyrite, 1,102 cubic meters of clay for brick and ceramic production, 17,367 cubic meters of sand and gravel resources.
