Azerbaijan tightens flu control at border checkpoints

09 November 2009 [14:19] - TODAY.AZ
As a precaution, Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee has launched infectious disease preventive measures at border checkpoints due to H1N1 threat.

The Committee said in a statement that thermometry, health interview, visual check-up and other basic medical examinations are being carried out at checkpoints to detect and isolate travelers with suspicious flu symptoms like cough, fatigue, fever, upper respiratory tract inflammation, muscle and joint pains in order to prevent the rapid spread of infectious disease epidemic.

At the same time, vehicles passing the checkpoints are disinfected.

Besides, travelers are required to fill in a general health declaration approved by the Civil Aviation Administration when they enter the country by plane.

A special platform has been established to exchange information with the local hygiene and epidemiology centers. Thermal imaging devices have been procured and are being deployed at checkpoints for remote inspection.
