Deputy Transport Minister Musa Panahov told the President the 52.5km-long road was part of the Baku-Alat-Gazakh-Georgia state border highway.
The Deputy Minister said the construction work at the highway began in 2007 and was co-funded by Azerbaijan, OPEC Fund and Islamic Development Bank. According to Panahov, the highway features five bridges.
The President cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the highway, and then viewed its scheme.
President Ilham Aliyev chatted with constructors to praise their work.
