A documentary about Mugham wins an award at a Film Festival

The Mystical Music of Mugham Comes To Montana documentary has won an El Capitan award at the annual Yosemite International Film Festival in California. The 15-minute documentary records the exhausting musical road trip of the Qadim Sharq ('Ancient East') quartet across Montana in the Spring of 2007, with a special guest appearance by American mugham specialist Jeffery Werbock.

Mugham Comes To Montana previously won an Accolade Award at the La Jolla, California competition by the same name, and was most recently shown at the annual Big Easy Film Festival in New Orleans.

The documentary was directed by Thomas Goltz and produced by the European Azerbaijan Society Chairman Tale Heydarov and edited by Katy Garton of the Sprout Group.

The tour itself was facilitated through Elin Suleymanov, Consul General of Azerbaijan to California and the Thirteen western US states (including Montana) with funding from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Baku.
